Abstract

Non-compliance with medication is still often found in patients who are undergoing treatment, especially for patients with diseases that require long-term medication, one of which is hypertension. This study aimed to assess the compliance of hypertensive patients in one of the public health center in West Jakarta who underwent their treatment. The design of this study was cross sectional. Compliance was measured with 8 Morisky questions (MMAS-8). Research permission was obtained from the West Jakarta City Health Department The research ethics clearance was obtained from the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia. Inform concent was asked to  patients before they filled out the questionnaire. Compliance data were analyzed descriptively to illustrate the frequency. The relationship between adherence and blood pressure control was analyzed using the chi square test. The results showed that only 19.1% of patients had high adherence. Whereas patients with moderate and low levels of adherence were 40.2% and 40.8%, respectively. Female patients dominate by 72.37 percent. There is no significant relationship between the level of adherence and blood pressure control. The large number of patients who are not compliant in taking antihypertensive drugs is a serious problem encountered in the treatment of patients.
